Proposal Essay

The peer review in class went pretty good.  I liked the input I got on my paper.  Some of the information was useful! I don't know how I feel about my paper though.  It's just not my kind of writing.  I don't really have a lot of voice in it which I think I could improve because it sounds like a robot in some parts.  I do like the topic I picked though! I also went to the extra credit workshop last Wednesday, and I think it helped because it showed when you are citing a source there are different ways in arranging them in your sentence.  For instance, according to The Media Affects by so and so blahblahblah. So it made my paper less boring :)

thesis

My thesis is about how I personally think the crime rate has gone up due to the violence in the media.  I always wondered why there has been so much violent lately and it occured to me that the media is open everywhere.  I think it has the biggest effect on children.  When children see things they assume they have the right to do it.  I think children have a hard time understanding what is reality and what is fake.  Many things we see today in the media is not realistic.  The media I feel has shaped our society too much.  This is why I chose to write this subject.

100 People Who Are Screwing Up America

I really loved reading some of the stories.  I love hearing other peoples opinion on different sides of things.  The reason why, it makes me realize things that I never would have realized until that certain person said something.  Like, Barbara Walters, I always watch her interviews and have always found her a person I could watch on tv.  But he made a valid point, she doesn't talk about news at all.  Everything she talks about is gossip.  I relate it like catching up with someone on their life instead of their personal views on the current events that are happening in today's world.  I also really enjoyed reading about everyone's opnion on Bush.  Another story that caught my eye was about 9/11 and how certain countries think we are a horrible influence when they will have random people attach bombs to themselves and kill themselves.  This author made a great point that most critics are very opnionated about America because they want to make it a better country.  Many people don't realize it, they just think they are being too outspoken.  I think we should use freedom of speech to its full potential because other countries don't even have half of the privelages we do in the United States.

Peer Reviews

I actually liked doing the peer reviews.  It helped a lot with my paper and revising it.  I realized what I really need to work on this year in writing my papers. What I need to focus on the most is not going back to a previous topic I already talked about and jumping from topic to topic so often, and to make sure I have closure before I go to the next topic.  I thought while editting my paper it had improved greatly.

leaving the world

If I die tomorrow, I would be sad but know that I left the world with the satisfaction of my life.  I have met so many interesting and wonderful people in my life.  My family has always been there for me and supportive in whatever I do in life.  I am very blessed to have a family like mine.  This past year I have made many decisions that I don't take for granted.  All my life I have played soccer, thats what my high school years were all about.  I decided to do show choir instead and get back into choir.  I had a solo that year in our show choir ballad and was a pink lady in the Grease musical.  I would be a little disappointed about not completeing my bucket list.  But, I did however go skydiving this summer and that was absolutely fantastic! If I left the world tomorrow I'm pretty sure I would be remembered as the girl who is always laughing and doing random things and I would be completely okay with that because that is exactly how I am.  However, I don't know what my parents would do.  Especially my mom, she has texted me or called me almost everyday telling me how much she misses me lol. Part of the reason I think is I had my palm read and they told me I would die in a car accident when I was 18, which is obviously not true because those palm readers are not accurate. But as I have been thinking that is probably why my mom didn't let me take a car to college.  So, if I died I would be okay with it because I strongly believe that God has a reason for everything that happens in life.

chicas vs. chicos

First off, I love the song "If I Were A Boy". I am a huge fan of Beyonce.  I think sterotypically girls and boys were defined pretty well.  But I have come to realize that boys and girls both think a lot in the same ways.  Not, in everything of course but most things.  The huge difference between the two I think are girls handle there emotions a little differently than guys.  Really, that just depends on who you are talking to.  I don't think you can really categorize a girl or guy into one group because each person is so different. I would think it would be sweet to switch to a guy for a few days.  Taking five minutes to get ready would be pretty awesome not gonna lie.  But I don't think I would want to switch for too long because I wouldn't enjoy playing xbox or call of duty all day.

university life

I never would have expected Hillary Clinton's life to be like that.. at all.  It seemed like her parents really let her persue her dreams in life. It was really odd to me how when she went to other churches she was not really informed on Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. When now, in any History class they are very well known. I also found it interesting that she was involved in so many activities. Now I understand why she is still today involved in politics.

The Notebook

I love this book. I could read it over and over again.  I could also watch the movie over and over again :) I can't believe Noah would read the same story over and over to their loved one, in hopes that they will remember them even though they have Alzheimers.  I also love Noah in this story because he stands his own ground.  Even though nobody believes that his method will work, he doesn't care at all.  That is when you know that someone truly cares about somebody other than themselves.

About Me

Hi my name is Casey Kelly.  I am from Gretna, Nebraska.  I grew up in Nebraska my entire life.  The reason I chose to go to USD was because it was away from home but yet it was only three hours away if I needed to go home.  In high school, I was involved in soccer, show choir, one act, and in Grease.  I have no idea what I really want to do with my life so I just majored in psychology to see how it goes.  I love watching movies, listening to music (especially Lady Gaga), etc.  My family and friends mean the world to me and I don't know what I would do without them! I am very excited for my first year at USD and can't wait to see how it goes :)
